JACK A. FRIEDLAND, MD, is a highly esteemed and accomplished figure in the field of plastic and reconstructive surgery. Dr. Friedland has retired from the active practice of Plastic Surgery, but his legacy and impact on the field continue to this day. His practice has been transitioned to Dr. Terry R. Dr. Maffi has access to Dr. Friedland's previous patients' records so that he can accurately continue appropriate care for them. Dr. Friedland's philosophy while he was in practice was that "One's self image should be the best that it can be." He has always been dedicated to the highest standards of patient welfare and surgical excellence, as evidenced by his certification by both the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Plastic Surgery. He is on the Editorial Board of several journals and has been the Review Editor of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, one of the most prestigious journals of plastic surgery. At present, he is an Associate Editor as well as the Oculoplastic Section Editor of The Aesthetic Surgery Journal.
Education and Training
Dr. Friedland is a highly educated and trained physician, having completed his undergraduate education at the University of Wisconsin (Madison; 1958-1961), and graduating from Northwestern University Medical School (B.S. 1962; M.D. 1965), where he was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha, Honor Medical Society. He completed a straight surgical internship and general surgery residency at New York University-Bellevue Medical Center, followed by the completion of a plastic surgery residency at the Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery in New York City.
Professional Appointments
Dr. Friedland has held numerous prestigious academic and administrative appointments throughout his career. He has been a Clinical Instructor in Surgery and a Clinical Instructor in Plastic Surgery at New York University. He was also an Assistant Director of the Phoenix Plastic Surgery Residency Program from 1974-1984, and an Attending Physician of the Phoenix Plastic Surgery Fellowship Program from 1985-Present. He was also a Member of Extramural Faculty of Mayo Medical School as Associate Professor of Plastic Surgery, and is currently a Clinical Professor of Surgery (Plastic) at the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix. He has also served as an American Board of Plastic Surgery Examiner for Oral Examinations from 1994- Present.

Dr. Friedland has been a member of many prestigious medical societies and associations throughout his career, including Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, the American Association of Plastic Surgeons, the American Cleft Palate - Craniofacial Association, the American College of Surgeons, the American Medical Association, the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the Arizona Medical Association, the Arizona Society of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeons, the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, and the Maricopa County Medical Society, among others.

Dr. Friedland has also held numerous hospital appointments throughout his career. He has been the Chief of the Department of Plastic Surgery at Phoenix Children's Hospital, the Chief of Staff of Children's Rehabilitative Services, the Chief of the Department of Plastic Surgery at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center, the Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center, Scottsdale Healthcare -Osborn, Shea, Thompson Peak Medical Centers, the Phoenix Surgicenter, Maricopa Medical Center, and the Chief of the Department of Plastic Surgery at Paradise Valley Cosmetic Surgery Center.
Dr. Friedland has made significant contributions to the field of plastic and reconstructive surgery throughout his career. He has been a frequent contributor, lecturer, and participant in national and international Plastic Surgery symposia and conferences, and has visited several universities as a Traveling Professor, sponsored by national plastic surgery organizations. He has written many articles which have been published in peer-reviewed journals and has contributed to several textbooks. He is on the Editorial Board of several journals and has been the Review Editor of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, one of the most prestigious journals of plastic surgery. At present, he is an Associate Editor as well as the Oculoplastic Section Editor of The Aesthetic Surgery Journal.
One of Dr. Friedland's greatest passions has been his work with children. He has a special love for children and an interest in correcting congenital deformities. As a result, he has traveled to third world countries, most recently to Haiti, performing correction of cleft lip and palate deformities. He is presently Chief of Plastic Surgery in the Children's Rehabilitative Services of Arizona. Through his clinics, the children from families who are financially less fortunate are able to receive the same quality care as those who seek his services on a private basis.
